There are four older base stations within 500 metres (1,640 feet) of the tree, but telecommunications regulatory commission director General Helasiri ranatunga told AFP there was "no 5G coverage in the sacred area as rumoured". 

Fake news about covid 19 vaccin


In sri lanka as in many other countries, there has been misinformation about covid 19 vaccines. Common fake news includes false claims about the vaccines being dangerous, ineffective or part of a conspiracy. Some misinformation might also spread through social media or unofficial channels.

In sri lanka, the covid 19 vaccination campaigh has seen significant progress. As of mid 2021,over 50%of the population had received both does of the vaccine. The country employed six different vaccines. 

Fake news about Israel - Palestine war


There have been reports of mis leading information circulating in sri lanka regarding the Israel Palestine conflict false images and videos, such as those taken from other events or location are being shared online to create confusion. Fact - checkers have identified several instances where old footage or fake letters were used to the spread of disinformation about the ongoing war. 

It's real news 

The situation between Israel and Palestine remains tense in September 2024, with high casualty noumbers due to ongoing conflicts. The war between Israel and hamas has resulted in over 42.000 deths, the majority being Palestinians from gaza.
